The Babelsberg studio
The DEFA studio near Berlin made fairy-tale films for four decades. The Singing Ringing Tree, The Story of Little Mook, The Tinder Box, The Golden Goose and Snow White show its painted forests and grand castles.
Later gems
The Farmer's Clever Daughter, Sechse kommen durch die Welt, Hans Rockle and the Devil, Gritta of the Rats' Castle and The Golden Thaler carry the tradition into the seventies and eighties.
Children's films
DEFA also made gentle stories of everyday life, such as Alfons Zitterbacke, The Journey to Sundevit, Moritz in der Litfaßsäule and Sabine Kleist, Aged Seven.
